Ron
Treffene – Managing Director /
founder
Ron has over 35 years in the wine industry and started out as a Bottling
Supervisor with Mildara Wines in 1971. He then went on to the position of
Winery Foreman (1974-1976), Bottling Head Supervisor (1976-1979),
Production Manager (1979-1997). He then moved into the executive team
becoming Group Logistic Manager (1994-1997), then Group Packaging and
Distribution Director (1997-2000). In this time, he saw the company turn
from a few thousand cases per annum into a global business distributing
over 3 million cases worldwide.
Ken
Henderson – General Manager
Ken has over 23 years experience in the wine industry starting out as a
Laboratory Technician with Mildara Wines in 1982. He then became Quality
Control Officer in 1984, Assistant Bottling Manager in 1990 and after
completing his Wine Making degree became Production Manager in 1994. In
2000 he assumed the role of General Manager, Trade Packaging &
Distribution with Beringer Blass Wine Estates before joining Best
Bottlers in 2003. He holds a Bachelor of Applied Science, a Graduate
Diploma in Business Administration and a Diploma in Business,
International Trade.
Margaret
Barnes – Production Manager
Margaret also has over 23 years experience in the wine
industry. Starting out as a Bottling Line Attendant with Mildara Wines,
then becoming Production Clerk, Production Components Supervisor in 1990,
Assistant Bottling Manager in 1994 and then Production Manager for
Beringer Blass Wine Estates in 2000, before joining Best Bottlers in
2002.
Stuart
Haby – Winemaker
Stuart has worked in the wine industry for over 11 years and
is the only expatriate Norman’s team member to continue on with Best
Bottlers. His attention to detail is second to none and ensures that the
wines received at Best Bottlers are kept at their optimum.
Peter
Stone – Engineer
Peter moved into the wine industry in 1987 as the engineer responsible
for Mildara Wines, Merbein and Yellowglen Wines, Smythesdale. He held
that position for 15 years and was overseer of all capital development on
those sites.
Projects included;
- Packaging line redevelopment and expansion.
- Expansion of climate controlled warehousing.
- Winemaking redevelopment and expansion.
- Technology upgrade for sparkling wine production.
Peter joined Best Bottlers in 2002 to develop
and oversee the construction of the Mildura operation. Peter is a
Chartered Professional Engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of
Engineers Australia. He is also the founding Treasurer of the Winery
Engineering Association Limited.
Gavin
Lawn – Production Foreman
Gavin has over 15 years experience in the wine industry.
Beginning in 1983 at Mildara Wines as a bottling attendant, he moved on
to become a Bottling Line Supervisor before relocating to Ballarat to
take on the role of Bottling Manager at Yellowglen Winery in 1989. He
oversaw the upgrading and expansion of the bottling operation and then
returned to Mildara Blass as a Bottling Line Supervisor before embarking
on the running of his own successful business. He sold the business and
joined Best Bottlers in 2001.
Bryan
Mazey – Commercial Manager
Bryan joined Best Bottlers in 2006 after 6 years with Beringer Blass Wine
Estates Merbein as Production Scheduler and Planning Manager. Prior to
BBWE Bryan worked at Southcorp Karadoc as Planner Scheduler. Bryan ran
his own business for 2 years after working for 15 years at Collotype
Labels. Roles at Collotype included trade certificate as Printing
Machinist (self adhesive wine labels), Planner/Estimater, Senior Planner,
Customer Liaison and Sales Representative.
Darren
Rogers – Management Accountant
Darren has been in the wine industry financial world starting with
Mildara Wines in 1991. He joined Best Bottlers in 2001.
Darren holds a degree in accounting.
Dorothy
Bottams – Distribution Manager,
Export
Dorothy has over 33 years experience in wine distribution. She began her
career at Mildara Wines as a bottling attendant then went on to become
Despatch Clerk. Dorothy was Domestic Distribution Manager for Beringer
Blass Wine Estates from 1994 to 2001, before joining Best Bottlers.
Ken
Kontrec – Warehouse Manager
Ken has been involved in the wine industry for over 20 years beginning at
Mildara Wines as a Bottling Line attendant in 1983. He went on to become
a forklift driver, storeman and finally, dry goods storeman Supervisor in
1994. Ken then joined Best Bottlers in 2001. He is meticulous in his
approach, which ensures stock is kept under control at all times.
Kylie
McSwain – Distribution Supervisor
Kylie has over 19 years experience in domestic wine distribution starting
in 1986 with Mildara Wines as a Distribution Clerk. She then went on to
become Distribution Supervisor in 1994, before becoming Domestic
Distribution Manager with Beringer Blass Wine Estates in 2001. Kylie
joined Best Bottlers in 2004.
Simone
Bartel – Laboratory manager
Simone joined Best Bottlers in 2003. Prior to joining Best Bottlers,
Simone was Laboratory Supervisor at the Mildura Fruit Juice Company,
responsible for juice analysis and micro testing. Simone has an extensive
resume and has a wide range experience achieved in a range of industries.
Simone was a key employee during the NATA
certification process, and is currently responsible for maintaining NATA,
BRC & HACCP accreditations, and management of the Laboratory team.
Colin Trembath – Quality Systems Manger
Colin has over 25 years experience in Quality Assurance in the wine
industry. He was Quality Manager for Southcorp’s Karadoc operation until
2000 after which he ran his own QA consulting company for several years
before joining Best Bottlers in 2005. Colin worked for Best Bottlers as a
consultant prior to this.
